P.E.A.R.L. Performance Lab
P.E.A.R.L. (Performance Enhancement And Rehab Lab) is a collection of specialized tools and methods to perform legitimate biomechanical analysis of your unique movement. Our clinicians have extensive training and experience unlike any others to conduct tests, evaluate data, identify and prioritize problems, and provide corrective strategies. All ages and abilities are appropriate for these methods, which can be creatively adapted for a wide variety of movement study. It is especially helpful in cases regarding; walking/running, athletic movement, cycling, prescription rational for custom orthotics, identifying loading patterns for joint health, repetitive stress injuries, and more.

Labs: We also offer booking Lab sessions with our clinicians. Lab sessions are blocks of time that typically involve customized evaluation, data collection and analysis, and corrective strategies. Lab sessions are typically 3-5 hours long, and may be spread over several days, but are most efficient if the first 2-3 hours can be performed in one block. Labs are great methods for studying any movement or posture related issue but are excellent for:
- Running Analysis
- Cycling Analysis and Bike Fitting
- Athletic Movement Analysis
- Injury and Return-To-Sport Screening
Our primary P.E.A.R.L tools include, but are not limited to;
a. Video Analysis
Hi-speed recordings of running, sport, or other movements are taken from up to 20 different views and analyzed frame-by-frame by a specialist with you. Movement form, symmetry, timing, mobility, and neuromuscular control are assessed to identify causes of injury, opportunities for performance improvement, and insight to create highly customized corrective strategies.
b. Functional Muscle Electromyography
Muscle activation and control during functional movement is often the root cause of injuries or impaired performance. Accurately identifying deficits in individual muscle performance require specialized methods. sEMG is that method. The activation of up to eight muscles is measured simultaneously while running or performing nearly any other movement. Muscle firing quantity, quality, timing, and patterns are analyzed and “areas of opportunity” are identified. The system is then used to provide immediate feedback during the development of corrective exercises to ensure the desired neuroplastic changes are happening.
Forces between your foot and the ground using in-shoe insole sensors are measured while running or performing other movements. Data is collected to quantify the impact, loading rates at the heel, midfoot and forefoot, pronation/supination quantity and velocity, balance, pressure, and much more. Not only does this allow for incredible insight into the causes of dysfunction in the entire foot and leg, but it also aids in creating and assessing optimal orthotic benefits.
