How to Keep up With Your Physical Therapy This Summer

Are you planning a vacation with your family this summer? Are you wondering how to keep up your PT treatments now that you finally feel better? At Prevail Physical Therapy Services, our physical therapists can help by providing you with home exercises that you can do no matter where you travel!
It is well known that patients who adhere to their prescribed exercises are significantly better at achieving their goals and have improved physical function. Non-adherence, on the other hand, increases the risk of re-injury or flare-ups and overall less positive outcomes long term.
Our team believes that providing a home exercise program to fit your needs is part of the solution to non-adherence. We understand that your life situation can make prioritizing exercises and physical therapy home programs difficult. We will work with you to provide the most important exercises and a straightforward program for you to follow so you can enjoy your summer vacations and do what you love!

Recovery Happens One Phase at a Time
Understanding every stage of healing helps you recover safely, rebuild strength, and return to the activities you love with confidence.
Understanding the Four Phases of Recovery
If you’re preparing for a total shoulder replacement or another orthopedic surgery, knowing what to expect can make recovery less overwhelming and help you stay focused on long-term success.
At Prevail Physical Therapy Services, our physical therapists guide you through every stage of rehabilitation with personalized treatment plans that restore mobility, strength, and function while allowing your body to heal naturally.
Acute Phase
Week One
Pain management, swelling reduction, protection of the surgical site, and gentle range of motion begin the healing process.
Mobility Phase
Weeks 2-4
Gentle mobility exercises help prevent scar tissue buildup while gradually restoring healthy movement.
Strengthening Phase
Weeks 4-7
Therapy progresses to rebuilding strength, flexibility, and joint control through targeted rehabilitation exercises.
Functionality Phase
8 Weeks and Beyond
The final stage emphasizes restoring everyday function so you can confidently return to work, hobbies, and recreation.
Why Recovery Takes Time
Healing is a gradual biological process that requires patience. Advancing too quickly may increase pain or interfere with proper tissue healing.
- Protect healing tissues
- Control inflammation
- Restore joint mobility
- Rebuild muscle strength
- Safely resume daily activities
How Physical Therapy Helps
A structured rehabilitation program ensures every stage builds on the previous one, maximizing recovery while reducing setbacks.
- Individualized exercise progression
- Hands-on mobility techniques
- Pain and swelling management
- Strength and stability training
- Functional movement retraining
Every Phase Brings You Closer to Recovery
Recovery isn’t about rushing the process—it’s about progressing safely. Following a personalized rehabilitation plan with your physical therapist helps you heal properly, regain confidence, and return to the activities you enjoy as efficiently as possible.
