Year-end reminder

Use Your Physical Therapy & Orthotics Insurance Benefits Before They Expire!

The end of the year is the perfect time to make the most of your insurance benefits! If you’ve already met your deductible, your physical therapy visits – and even custom orthotics – could be covered at little to no cost before your plan renews January 1st.

Many patients use this time to finish their treatment plan, check in on their progress, or finally address that nagging pain they’ve been putting off. It’s also an ideal time to get fitted for custom orthotics, which can help correct imbalances, relieve foot and joint pain, and improve how you move every day. The process for orthotic assessment and prescription can take a few visits and we see our highest volume of orthotic orders in November and December so it is wise to get on our schedule as soon as possible if you would like them to be billed before December 31st for insurance purposes.

Don’t let your 2026 benefits go to waste! Our team at Prevail Physical Therapy is here to help you feel your best heading into the new year.

Appointments fill quickly at year-end, call today to schedule your visit or orthotic fitting before your benefits reset!

Tip of the Month

Celebrate National PT Month by Moving Toward Better Health

October is National Physical Therapy Month, making it a great time of year to consider how well your body supports the life you want to live.

Maybe an old injury keeps bothering you. Perhaps your balance feels less reliable, or your workouts have stalled. Or maybe you simply want to stay active and healthy for years to come.

No matter your goals, the team at Prevail Physical Therapy can help get your health back on track.

Six Ways PT Can Help You Feel and Move Better

1. Reduce Pain and Move More Comfortably

Pain can have a bigger impact than you might realize. Often, it changes your movement patterns, which can change how you move, making certain activities feel more difficult or less comfortable. Many people will also start to avoid activity, leading to additional weakness and stiffness.

Physical therapy provides an active approach to managing pain. We offer several treatment techniques to make movement more comfortable, including manual therapy, movement retraining, and personalized tips for staying active in ways that work for you.

2. Build Strength Without Putting Excessive Stress on Your Body

Strong muscles support healthy joints, overall mobility, and improved athletic performance. But if you’re recovering from injury or surgery, heavy resistance training might not be appropriate, even if it would help with recovery. That’s where blood flow restriction (BFR) therapy comes in.

BFR uses a specialized cuff during low-load exercise to partially restrict blood flow to a working limb. When appropriately prescribed and monitored, BFR can help improve muscle strength and size while using lighter resistance than traditional high-load strength training. Our team can let you know if BFR training is appropriate for your condition and rehabilitation goals.

3. Improve Your Walking or Running Mechanics

Small changes in how your trunk and lower body work together can affect your walking or running pattern, which is why we offer walking and running analysis services. Our team uses in-shoe sensor technology to take a closer look at your movement mechanics, including what happens between your foot and the ground while you’re moving.

This detailed assessment can help us identify factors to address through personalized training to improve strength, mobility, walking patterns, and more.

4. Stay Active With the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill

Sometimes you need to move before your body is ready to tolerate your full body weight. That’s the exact situation that our AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill is designed for. This space-age treadmill reduces the amount of body weight you experience while walking or running, making it possible to exercise with less load on sensitive joints or healing tissues.

This approach provides another way to work toward normal walking, running, and exercise.

5. Improve Balance and Reduce Your Risk of Falls

Balance problems can keep you from being as active as you’d like, but they can also stem from several different factors, from muscle weakness to issues with your body’s vestibular system. Our team can help pinpoint the specific issues that keep you from feeling steady and develop a personalized plan to address them.

Depending on your needs, treatment might involve strengthening your core or lower body, working through targeted balance-training exercises, or addressing issues in your inner ear that may be causing dizziness and vertigo.

6. Train for the Activities You Love

Physical therapy isn’t limited to recovering from an injury. It can also help you prepare your body for the activities that keep you healthy and engaged. That’s why we offer detailed sports performance and analysis services tailored to runners, walkers, cyclists, skiers, snowboarders, and other active individuals.

Regardless of your sport, a performance analysis will help identify your activity demands, pinpoint areas for improvement, and create a plan that helps you perform with greater strength, control, and confidence.

Celebrate National Physical Therapy Month by Investing in Your Movement

Better health isn’t measured solely by the absence of pain. It can also mean walking comfortably, participating in your favorite sport, and keeping up with your family.

No matter your goals, physical therapy can help you build the strength, mobility, balance, and movement skills you need to get back on track with your health.

Take some time this October to consider what you’d like your body to do better. Then contact Prevail Physical Therapy to schedule an evaluation and discover how our team can help you feel better, function better, and keep doing what you love.

Move better from the ground up

Support Better Movement From the Ground Up with Custom Orthotics

Whether you’re standing in a grocery store line or running over rough terrain, your feet are working hard to help. So it’s probably not surprising to learn that how your foot functions can impact more than your foot itself, including your ankles, knees, hips, and lower back.

In these cases, the Prevail Physical Therapy team may recommend custom orthotics, specialized shoe inserts designed around a detailed assessment of how your feet and lower body function.

What Can Custom Orthotics Help With?

Orthotics work by changing how forces are distributed through the foot during standing and movement. For the right person, this may change loading in a way that makes activity more comfortable.

Depending on your needs, custom orthotics may help:

  • Reduce pressure on sensitive areas of the foot
  • Support more comfortable walking or running
  • Change how pressure and forces are distributed through the feet
  • Address certain foot and lower limb movement problems
  • Make it easier to stay active when foot discomfort has limited activity

At Prevail Physical Therapy, we use custom orthotics as part of a broader treatment plan. Mobility work, therapeutic exercise, and other physical therapy strategies all work together to help improve movement and function.

Find the Right Support for Your Feet

Foot discomfort does not have to keep changing how you move. Contact Prevail Physical Therapy to learn whether custom orthotics and a personalized physical therapy plan can help address your recovery goals.

What Our Patients Are Saying

I damaged (not a tear) my rotator cuff and needed therapy to repair it. My therapist, Dr. Cody Lozier, was a great help, consistent and thorough. He developed a program that has worked very well. I just had my last appointment. My shoulder is almost fully recovered. Thank you, Cody. I highly recommend you to anyone looking for a therapist who listens, develops a program designed specifically for your issue, is kind, knowledgeable, and always helpful.

Understanding Neck Pain

Neck pain can happen for various reasons. It might be due to poor posture, muscle strain, or, in some cases, something more serious like a herniated disc. In other cases, an underlying medical condition can also lead to neck pain.

The neck is a complex part of our body, with bones, muscles, and nerves all working together. When something goes wrong in this delicate balance, it can result in pain and discomfort.

How Physical Therapy at Prevail Physical Therapy Can Help

Physical therapy is all about using exercises and techniques to improve movement and reduce pain. Here’s how it can work wonders for your neck pain:

01

1. Targeted Exercises

Our experienced therapists are experts at designing exercises that specifically target the muscles and structures causing your neck pain. These exercises are tailored to your needs, ensuring they are effective and safe.

02

2. Posture Correction

Many of us have less-than-ideal posture, especially when working on computers or looking down at our phones. Our skilled physical therapists will teach you how to maintain good posture, reducing the strain on your neck muscles.

03

3. Hands-on Techniques

Your therapist may use hands-on techniques like manual therapy techniques or gentle stretches to alleviate muscle tension and improve mobility in your neck joints.

04

4. Education and Self-care

Understanding how to take care of your neck is essential. Your therapist will provide valuable insights on ergonomics, lifestyle changes, and self-care practices to manage and prevent future neck pain.

Our team stays up-to-date on the most advanced treatments and will adjust your program as needed. We will give you the tools to resolve your current episode of pain so you can get back to doing what you love!

What to Expect During Physical Therapy

On your first visit, your physical therapist will conduct a thorough evaluation. They will ask about your medical history, assess your range of motion, and discuss your pain symptoms.

Once they have a clear picture, they will create a personalized plan for your recovery. This plan will include specific exercises and techniques tailored to your condition. You’ll work closely with your therapist, who will monitor your progress and adjust as needed.

Here are some of the benefits you can expect from physical therapy for neck pain:

  • Pain Relief: The primary goal of physical therapy is to reduce your pain and discomfort. With targeted exercises and techniques, many people experience significant relief.
  • Improved Mobility: You’ll likely notice improved neck mobility as you progress through your therapy. This means you can turn your head more easily and without pain.
  • Better Quality of Life: Neck pain can limit your daily activities. Physical therapy can help you regain your ability to do things you love, like gardening, playing sports, or even just enjoying a pain-free night’s sleep.
  • Preventing Recurrence: Our physical therapists don’t just treat the symptoms; they also work on preventing future episodes of neck pain. By learning better habits and exercises, you can reduce the chances of neck pain returning.

Recipe of the Month

This Month’s Recipe: Spicy Creamy Mushroom Udon

For a spicy, satisfying meal, you have to try this Japanese-Korean fusion bowl! It features udon noodles tossed in a rich, creamy Gochujang Mushroom Sauce and is topped with the crispiest herb-butter-fried oyster mushrooms.

Ingredients

For the Crispy Oyster Mushrooms

  • 6 oz (170 g) oyster mushrooms, torn into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2-3 sprigs fresh thyme
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Creamy Spicy Mushroom Udon

  • 2 packs udon noodles (fresh or frozen, about 14–16 oz / 400–450 g total)
  • 5-6 fresh shiitake mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • 1 large shallot, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ – 2 tbsp gochujang (Korean red chili paste), adjusting to your spice preference
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¼ – ½ cup water or chicken/vegetable broth, as needed
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Green onions, sliced (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the crispy mushrooms: Heat the butter and oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the oyster mushrooms and thyme, season lightly with salt and black pepper, and pan-fry for 4–5 minutes. Stir occasionally until they are golden brown and crispy around the edges. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. Build the sauce: In the same pan, add the chopped shallot, minced garlic, and sliced shiitake mushrooms. Sauté over medium heat for 3–4 minutes, until the shallots soften and the mushrooms turn lightly golden.
  3. Make it creamy and spicy: Add the gochujang and stir for about 30 seconds to toast the paste. Pour in the heavy cream and ¼ cup of your water or broth. Mix until the gochujang is fully incorporated and the sauce is smooth.
  4. Add the udon: Place the udon noodles directly into the sauce. Turn the heat up to high and cook for 2–3 minutes, tossing constantly until the noodles separate and are completely coated in the creamy sauce. (Note: If the sauce becomes too thick, add another splash of water or broth.)
  5. Garnish and serve: Taste the sauce and adjust the salt and black pepper if needed. Divide the noodles between two bowls and top generously with the crispy oyster mushrooms and sliced green onions.
